The North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCCADV) and the North Carolina Coalition Against Sexual Assault (NCCASA), with support from the North Carolina Governor’s Crime Commission, have identified and begun the implementation of a state wide data collection system that will be used in domestic violence and sexual assault providers across the state.
A data collection tool has both short-term and long-term benefits. In the short-term, it has the potential to dramatically ease the reporting process for agencies, while increasing the consistency of the data that is collected and reported. Better reporting mechanisms also increase opportunities for funding and strengthen an agency’s ability to advocate for more resources to support their services. Additionally the data collection system will provide the long-term benefit of aggregate, statewide data that will facilitate the evaluation of what interventions and services have the greatest impact on improving services for domestic violence and sexual assault survivors and reducing rates of violence.
This tool is provided, at no cost, to any provider agency in North Carolina. Mandatory statewide reports are built into the system to ease reporting requirements and burdens. The system, designed by Osnium ( www.womenssheltersoftware.com) is user friendly and easily customizable. North Carolina advocates spent many hours ensuring that the system was modified to fit the needs of North Carolina survivors, programs and advocates.
