Latinx Workshop - Durham, NC - July 18, 2019

NCCADV is committed to helping all domestic violence survivors thrive in a healthy, non-violent environment. Due to gaps in serving domestic violence survivors and an increase in hostile attitudes towards Latinx/immigrants with immigration status, varying status, or no status, there are dangers and barriers for Latinx victims of domestic violence to overcome.

To combat this, NCCADV will be hosting a day-long workshop focusing on specific issues and needs of Latinx domestic violence survivors. This workshop will be centered around identifying prominent obstacles encountered by Latinx domestic violence advocates and resources most beneficial to those working within this community. The workshop will follow a roundtable discussion format and participants are encouraged to submit desired discussion topics and questions ahead of time.

NCCADV is also offering a limited amount of scholarships for those who attend the workshop. To submit discussion topics, questions, or to inquire about scholarship opportunities, please contact NCCADV’s Esperanza Castillo at ecastillo@nccadv.org.

Learning objectives:

  • Individuals will have a better understanding of how to advocate and serve Latinx survivors with immigration status, varying status, or no status.
  • Individuals will develop a shared understanding of language barriers in the Latinx community and its importance to domestic violence survivors.
  • Individuals will have a better understanding of helpful and harmful laws regarding immigration policy.
