EDLI Track 2 - Board of Directors and Volunteer Retention: Finding the Key

Volunteers and boards are the backbone of non-profit organizations. How do you keep them engaged? How do you address the fact that boards are not often reflective of the community they serve? How do you keep your volunteers coming back? How do you regularly give board members and volunteers opportunities to give feedback? We will walk you through a matrix to figure out who you are missing on your board, give some advice on how to boost and sustain productivity, and provide you with tools for onboarding and retaining board members and volunteers.

Day 2 begins with all meeting attendees gathering with fellow NCCADV Members to hear about NCCADV's impact and vision as well as engage in collaborative problem-solving. EDLI continues in the afternoon with a focus on self-care by learning the warning signs of a chronic stress crisis, what daily self-care at work looks like, and creating an organizational culture of self-care as a crucial part of a long-term burnout prevention plan. We will wrap up our membership meeting with demonstrations and practice of self-care techniques.

Membership Meeting and Self-Care Intensive

We will begin by learning about the science of stress, trauma exposure, and self-care and examine how systems of dominance manifest in policies, cultural norms and individual behaviors within organizations. Follow that with activities that partner systems of care with leadership and management tools in order to design strategies for change in themselves and their organizations. We will then learn how to practice self-care in our own life and work including demonstrations of basic meditation, relaxation techniques, assessing self-care strengths and needs, and creating self-care plans. End the member meeting feeling balanced and empowered to put self-care into practice. Member meeting follows self-care trainings.
