Legal and Policy Internship Job Summary:

This internship is reserved for students who are in law school or third/fourth year undergraduate student interested in pursuing law school.

The student intern will work under the supervision of a staff member who meets the educational and work-related qualifications required by the student’s university. Specifically, the student intern will be tasked with aiding the Legal and/or Policy Director.

Job responsibilities include assisting Legal & Policy Directors in three main areas: 1. Provision of technical assistance; 2. Training research and development and; 3. Policy research and development. In addition, interns will assist with other agency programmatic and administrative tasks.

This may include but is not limited to:

  1. Assisting Legal Director in research and development of legal DV training materials and presentations
  2. Assisting Policy Director in research and development of state and federal DV policy.
  3. Research legal and policy-related issues pertinent to the delivery of legal or advocacy services to survivors across NC.
  4. Conduct research necessary to respond to technical assistance questions from members and allied professionals across the state.
  5. Assist with other grant projects- DELTA (Prevention), CASE (Partnership with DSS re: children exposed to DV), etc.
  6. Assist in planning and delivery of trainings
  7. Assist with communication/member services

A student intern will be provided with working space as needed— some work can be performed offsite. The student intern is expected to follow the guidelines NCCADV’s policy and procedure manual outlines, and is expected to participate in an orientation process facilitated by the supervisor and agency. Further tasks will be defined by the student and supervisor.

Logistics:

Interns provide valuable support to NCCADV operations. Our staff strive to provide the information and supervision necessary to ensure that the internship experience is as rewarding for the student as for the organization. However, interns should be aware that NCCADV offers a fast-paced work environment, and the most successful internship candidates will be those who demonstrate high amounts of initiative and self-reliance. NCCADV does not offer financial compensation for interns.
